Welcome
I write about sobriety, queerness, and athletics exploring the areas where all three intersect.
Welcome to Substitution by me, Emily Green.
I am passionate about sobriety, queerness, athletics and where these three topics intersect. I want people to see how alcohol infiltrates sports to the extent many women and queer athletes are often relegated to endorsement deals with big alcohol companies.
I got sober at 39, came out at 40, and began a re-entry into competitive running shortly thereafter. I write to share that nothing is permanent and to provide evidence that discomfort can lift you above the fray.
If you feel less alone after reading, please let me know.
My writing can be found on Oiselle, Workit Health, Medium, and in features on Still I Run.
